Currently lacking defenders, Everton surely have to join Ben White hunt

Everton undoubtedly need reinforcements in central defence.

The options currently available to Carlo Ancelotti are Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate, with teenager Jarrad Branthwaite having made his first-team debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.

The Toffees struggled at the back last term and shipped 56 goals in 38 league games.

It is clear the club need someone to come in and reinvigorate the backline.

One man the club should be thinking about joining the race for, is Brighton defender Ben White, who has emerged as a rather coveted talent.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar season on loan at Leeds United in 2019/20, which culminated in him winning the club’s Young Player of the Year award after playing every league game, and it is little surprise the Whites want him back permanently.

Also reported to be in the hunt for White are Chelsea and Liverpool – which is a great testament to how much he has progressed in the last year.

Surely Everton should make some enquiries with White looking the real deal.

TBR’s View – White would be a Goodison hit

Leeds are probably the favourites for White right now, despite reportedly having an improved £22 million bid rejected (Sky Sports), but Everton should not be standing by over a player whom Brighton seem ready to cash in on.

Down the years, Goodison has seen some very good English defenders like Joleon Lescott, Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines.

White could very well become the next big fans’ favourite at the club if Everton were to elbow the other clubs aside.

He would be expensive, with The Telegraph recently reporting a £30 million asking price, but White truly has the potential to be special based off his showings last season.
