Crystal Palace are currently experiencing a goalkeeping crisis, with both Wayne Hennessey and Vicente Guaita out injured for the weekend clash with Liverpool.

With 39-year-old Julian Speroni the only other senior goalkeeper on Palace’s books, the club’s reported loan swoop for promising goalkeeper Lucas Perri is excellent business.

According to the Guardian, the Eagles are closing in on a six-month loan deal for the Sao Paulo player, with negotiations to permanently sign Perri over the summer also underway.

Roy Hodgson has consistently stated that Crystal Palace are only in the market for cut-price deals in January, forcing the club to search for players available on loans or free transfers.

In Perri, Crystal Palace will gain the services of a highly-rated young goalkeeper who was also targeted by Fiorentina — a sign of the 21-year-old’s considerable potential.

Furthermore, the timing of the deal is perfect due to the shortage of goalkeepers at Selhurst Park, as Perri will provide much-needed cover in an injury-hit position.

The permanent deal over the summer was reported by the Guardian to be around £3.3 million — a tremendous bargain in the current transfer market.

Crystal Palace’s mooted transfer of goalkeeper Lucas Perri is superb business all around, granting the Eagles the services of a promising talent in the midst of an injury crisis.
