Crystal Palace transfer: Eagles reportedly want 'magnificent' Celtic star man
Crystal Palace are eyeing a raid on SPL outfit Celtic to complete the signing of striker Odsonne Edouard, according to The Guardian.
New boss Patrick Vieira is keen to strengthen his ranks ahead of the new season. He recently signed defender Marc Guehi and his focus now will be bolstering his attack.
Edouard could leave Celtic during the transfer window. Their new boss, Ange Postecoglou, did start the Frenchman in Tuesday’s game against Midtjylland in the Champions League.
Earlier this summer it was reported by The Times that Leicester were close to signing the striker for £15 million.
That sort of fee should be affordable for the Palace and Edouard would certainly be an interesting addition.
The 23-year-old found the net 22 times last season and has scored 83 goals in 169 appearances for the Hoops in total.
Edouard earns just £19,000-a-week at Celtic Park and as a complete package, signing him looks like a complete no-brainer.
Celtic are braced for bids and probably would allow him to leave the club this summer should they receive £15 million.
Vieira will be looking to progress Palace into the higher echelons of the Premier League. Edouard is the type of signing who could help with such ambition.
Lethal instinct: Palace could be completing a coup by signing Edouard
Neil Lennon called his striker ‘magnificent’ after a standout showing on Boxing Day last year and he’s got a point.
Lots of clubs have been linked with a move for the striker but so far none have completed a deal.
Edouard comes alive in the penalty area and his clinical finishing could make him a quality addition to the Eagles ranks.
Of course, having never played in England, the jury might remain out for a little while. With the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Michael Olise creating the chances, however, he could score for fun.
Edouard would represent sound value for money and Palace could complete a major coup if they can sign the Frenchman.
