Crystal Palace star Patrick van Aanholt comments on new Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn

Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt has told Sky Sports News (Friday, 5.45pm) that Tottenham Hotspur have made a very good signing in the form of Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven.

Van Aanholt, 29, was linked with a move to Bergwijn’s old side PSV Eindhoven this month, with PSV looking to spend after raking in 27million for Bergwijn from Tottenham. The latter is one of three signings made by Spurs this month.

The duo have played for the national team on one occasion together – coming in the form of a 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw against Belgium. Now, the duo could be about to go head to head in the Premier League.

Asked about Tottenham’s newest signing Bergwijn, his Netherlands teammate van Aanholt was more than complimentary – claiming Spurs have made a good move to land the former PSV star.

“Goals,” van Aanholt said, when asked what Bergwijn will bring to Tottenham. “He’s a very good player, a very strong player, quick, talented. They’ve signed a very, very good player.”

TBR’s view – Where will Bergwijn get into Tottenham team?

Spurs have excellent attacking talents and could still add to that by the end of the day. Out wide, they boast the likes of Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and Ryan Sessegnon. Dele Alli, Gio Lo Celso and now Bergwijn all present options.

The likelihood is that Bergwijn may have to bide his time and shine in Cup games for Spurs before getting a chance to do it on the big stage. But given he is only 22, Spurs have signed a real player that can only get better.
