It seems Munir El Haddadi’s career at Barcelona is over. According to Marca, the Spanish youth star has been told by Barca boss Ernesto Valverde he will not be offered a new contract and will not play for the club again.
It is an unceremonious end to a career that promised so much at the Nou Camp.
However, it could also be an opportunity for Premier League teams. West Ham United have already been linked this week.
Crystal Palace might want to consider joining that race.
The Eagles have been linked before. In the summer of 2017, it was reported that Palace were keen. Newly appointed boss Frank De Boer was hoping to use his Nou Camp connections to bring the Spaniard to Selhurst Park, according to Mundo Deportivo. Munir ended up joining Alaves instead, scoring 14 goals in a successful campaign at Mendizorrotza.
De Boer may be long gone, but that does not mean Crystal Palace should not rekindle any lingering interest in Munir.
It is no secret the club are after more attacking options. The likes of Dominic Solanke, Tammy Abraham and Oumar Niasse have all been mentioned recently.
Given his excellent talent and form at Alaves last season, the Barcelona forward would easily be a comparable recruit for Roy Hodgson’s men.
A loan deal could even be made permanent for free in the summer, given his current contract situation. De Boer may have wanted him in 2017, but Hodgson should follow up on the flop manager’s Palace recruitment plans.
