Crystal Palace should decline to bring Yohan Cabaye back in January

Yohan Cabaye departed Crystal Palace this summer for a move to the Arabian Gulf League side Al Nasr, surprising many who still believed the midfielder had a role to play at Selhurst Park.

Yet just months after joining Al Nasr, Cabaye departed the club this week. Despite his close attachment to the Eagles, Crystal Palace should decline to bring Cabaye back to London in January, due to the disappointing nature of his time at Al Nasr.

In 12 league appearances, the Frenchman scored just one goal and supplied two assists — meagre statistics in a league of dreadfully poor quality.

For a player who performed well for Palace last season in the Premier League, such a deep drop in form in a matter of months is worrying.

In addition, Cabaye celebrated his 33rd birthday this week, with his advanced age possibly playing a role in his decline.

Although the midfielder is still a popular figure among the Crystal Palace support, picking up Cabaye in January would make little sense for Roy Hodgson.

The midfielder’s poor record at Al Nasr and his advanced age mean Palace must resist the urge to sign Yohan Cabaye this month.
