Report: Patrick Vieira now pushing hard to sign 'fantastic' Chelsea player, just weeks after Arsenal registered interest
Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace are pushing hard to try and sign Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, according to a report from The Evening Standard.
It comes just weeks after Vieira’s former club, Arsenal, reportedly made their interest known in Colwill, who is still with the Chelsea squad this summer after an impressive campaign with Huddersfield last term. The ES reports that Palace face competition from others, such as Leicester, Southampton, and Brighton.
Colwill, who was tipped to have a ‘fantastic‘ career by former Terriers teammate Lewis O’Brien, could still depart Stamford Bridge this summer despite being highly-rated. Thomas Tuchel has already signing Kalidou Koulibaly, while the German coach is also after more new signings for his defence.
Palace have made a habit of snapping up emerging talent and allowing them to flourish recently. Marc Guehi signed and has since become an England international, while Conor Gallagher enjoyed a fine loan spell at Palace too.
Colwill, meanwhile, was instrumental in helping Huddersfield make it to the playoffs last season. However, in the end he could do little to stop Nottingham Forest winning promotion back to the Premier League.
TBR’s View: Colwill Would Thrive Under Vieira
We saw how well Guehi did last season as well as the aforementioned Gallagher, while other young players like Ebere Eze and Michael Olise have also shown huge promise at Palace.
It makes the club an attractive proposition for Colwill, should he decide his future lies away from The Bridge. And in fairness, you couldn’t blame him for moving on either, given the other defenders Chelsea are trying to sign.
Colwill certainly has all the tools in his locker to go on and become a fine PL defender. It’s just a case of what Chelsea will accept for him and if a club like Palace is willing to pay it.
