Crystal Palace are currently embroiled in a summer of real uncertainty.
Several key players have been linked with moves away from Selhurst Park, such as Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Adam Wharton and Daniel Munoz after the FA Cup win last season.
Crystal Palace are also at odds with UEFA after being demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League, although that decision remains subject to an appeal to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport).
Now, however, a potential boost has emerged for Crystal Palace fans regarding the future of Munoz.
Daniel Munoz seems to have taken the No.2 shirt after Joel Ward departure
The Colombia international – who was named Man of the Match in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City – recently cast doubt over his future when speaking to Win TV.
Munoz admitted a desire to leave Crystal Palace, saying: “I want to play for the best teams in the world, but they haven’t spoken to me directly.
“I dream and work every day to achieve it, and I hope it can happen as soon as possible. I hope it’s in this window, but if not, I’m very happy at Crystal Palace.”
Munoz may well have one eye on a lucrative transfer, but the Colombian has now made a potentially telling move by taking the No.2 shirt vacated by Joel Ward, as Mateta inadvertently revealed when filming his teammate on Instagram.
Of course, it is not like the South American has signed a new contract or anything that concrete, but if he truly was fixated on a move away this summer, why would he bother to take a new shirt number?
Munoz is contracted to the Eagles until June 2028 and is not believed to have a release clause, so any move away would surely be costly after the right-back scored six goals and provided eight assists in 46 appearances last season.
The most likely player to depart Crystal Palace this summer
As aforesaid, many Crystal Palace players are on the radar of Premier League rivals this summer.
TBR Football understand Tottenham like Adam Wharton, while Arsenal are keen to sign Eze and Liverpool want Guehi at Anfield too.
The latter seems likeliest to depart this summer.
Guehi only has 11 months remaining on his contract, and has interest from Newcastle and Tottenham along with Liverpool.
So, should Crystal Palace not cash in this summer, they face the prospect of losing the England international – currently valued around £50m – for nothing in 2026.
