Crystal Palace open talks with Manchester City for Rogers for £7m
Crystal Palace are in talks with Manchester City over youngster Morgan Rogers, according to Daily Mail.
The Citizens are said to be demanding a fee of £7m with a sell-on percentage on top.
City bought the young striker, dubbed ‘one of the brightest talents in the country’, back in 2019 from West Bromwich Albion for £8m. They’ve paid £4m upfront with a further £750k in instalments thus far.
Palace appoint Patrick Vieira as manager on Monday on a three-year contract. And the club are eager to lower the average age of the current squad.
Ex-manager Roy Hodgson’s side had the highest average age in the Premier League last season at 28.8.
TBR View: Crystal Palace need to introduce some young blood amid Rogers talks
Looking at the table from last campaign, you’d think the Londoners had a fairly decent campaign.
Yet another season secured in the top-flight seems like a result for the Eagles. However, it was anything but a good year for the Selhurst Park faithful.
The football was turgid, poor and sluggish for most of the season.
The lack of youthful exuberance can be pinpointed as a reason for Hodgson’s defensive football.
Palace don’t have the legs across midfield and defence to push higher up the field to press teams. Their slow backline would’ve left them horribly exposed.
It highlights the need to add younger players to the squad like Arsenal did successfully in the second half of the season.
A move for Manchester City ace Rogers would be a great start for Crystal Palace as they move on under Vieira.
