Everton man Theo Walcott could be the ideal signing for Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace were beaten 1-0 at Nottingham Forest on Friday night to leave Roy Hodgson with massive work to do.

The Eagles have already sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United this summer, whilst Wilfried Zaha seems unlikely to stay.

Reinforcements are desperately required at Selhurst Park.

Sky Sports reported last week that an £8 million bid had been made for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland man has fought back from serious injury and would represent a decent addition to Hodgson’s ranks.

Another Toffees player could provide Palace with a real lift, however.

The Metro has reported that Zaha might be an ambitious target for Everton. Indeed, if they land the Ivory Coast international, it would severely hamper Theo Walcott’s first-team chances.

The ex-England man lost his way a little bit at Goodison Park last season.

Walcott, 30, scored six goals and registered two assists in his 40 appearances.

For a winger, it didn’t prove a fruitful season and a move away from Goodison might enhance his chances of playing regular and reviving his form.

Walcott played under Hodgson with England and having the trust of a manager to play him every week could be massive.

The £100,000 per-week man started 24 league games last season and was largely disappointing.

Bad players don’t emerge overnight, however, and Walcott just needs to regain some confidence.

If Zaha does depart Palace a winger will be a must and the Everton man could be just the tonic for Hodgson.
