It has been a pretty disjointed season from a Crystal Palace perspective and their supporters will hope for better next season.
Roy Hodgson’s team sit in 13th place and it is fair to say that pre-season optimism would have expected a bit more.
It looks like being a big summer for Hodgson as he goes in search of the new recruits to get the Eagles up the table. The ex-England boss will dearly like to keep hold of his better players too, although that may not be possible.
If departures are inevitable then that will enhance the kitty at least. One area that desperately needs a facelift is up front.
Michy Batshuayi is the highest scoring striker at Palace this season. He has netted three goals and didn’t sign for the club until January. Quite simply, that situation needs rectifying.
The summer transfer window must reap a striker capable of firing regular goals for Palace.
If the Eagles only sign one player this summer it needs to be a talisman and Werder Bremen striker Max Kruse could be worth a punt.
The 31-year-old has been sensational in the Bundesliga this season. In all competitions, he has 11 goals and 14 assists and given his age he probably wouldn’t break the bank.
Kruse has 14 Germany caps to his name and his experience would also be a useful asset at Selhurst Park.
German publication Deich Stube has previously linked Palace with a move. If Hodgson can pull off the deal, it would represent very shrewd business indeed.
