Crystal Palace continue to exceed expectations and have started the 2025-26 season in impressive fashion.

The Selhurst Park outfit won the FA Cup last term and are playing in European competition this season, much to the delight of the club’s fans.

This is despite continued transfer speculation over key defender Marc Guehi’s future, with manager Oliver Glasner recently admitting the England international will leave the London club next summer.

However, despite Guehi’s impending departure being one that will be acutely felt by Palace, contract talks with another key figure should be a priority.

Extending Oliver Glasner’s contract critical

Manager Glasner’s Palace contract expires at the end of the current season and chairman Steve Parish has recently admitted he is desperate to keep the Austrian at Selhurst Park.

The 51-year-old has given the Eagles team belief and instated an attacking brand of football that means the London side can beat anyone in the Premier League on their day.

When recently quizzed on why he has not extended his current contract, Glasner admitted the busy nature of his job had delayed talks.

“There is so much going on, the players and club deserve 100% Oliver Glasner. I don’t want to be distracted,” The Guardian report him as saying.

“We are looking for the right moments to talk. The club are not in a rush. I met Steve four or five times this week.

“He appreciates that I am always giving 100% and I appreciate our open and honest communication.”

After a dramatic 3-3 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday, Palace sit in eighth place on the Premier League table on 13 points.

Glasner’s services sure to be in demand

Glasner’s excellent performance as Palace manager will not have gone unnoticed and plenty of teams in England and on the continent will be keeping tabs on his contract situation.

Palace have lost key players already, such as Arsenal signing Eberechi Eze, but continue to excel.

The supporters will hope this will be the same situation once Guehi finally does leave Palace, but the loss of Glasner could be something that derails the club’s exceptional progress from the last 12 months.
