Crystal Palace fans want Arsenal player signed this summer, after Fabrizio Romano contract claim
Patrick Vieira is reportedly on the verge of becoming Crystal Palace manager. The Arsenal legend’s imminent arrival has seen numerous Gunners players touted as possible Palace signings. Now, Fabrizio Romano has commented on Reiss Nelson – and Palace fans have responded.
Nelson, 21, managed just two Premier League appearances last season under Mikel Arteta. The winger had the chance to leave Arsenal on loan in January but unlike Joe Willock and Ainsley Maitland-Niles – he stayed put. It was a move that backfired, as Willock especially sparkled at Newcastle.
Now, Italian journalist Romano has made a claim regarding Nelson’s future. The winger has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Arsenal. It is believed that a deal is on the table for Nelson this summer, but the winger is choosing not to sign the new deal. Romano claims interest is rife.
He reckons that three English clubs are interested in signing Nelson this summer, though they are unnamed. Also, it is believed Greek Super League winners Olympiakos are interested. Meanwhile, at Palace, Vieira has a big rebuilding job at Selhurst Park – with plenty about to leave the club.
Why Palace really need Nelson
Palace are about to wave goodbye to 13 senior players. Wayne Hennessey, Mamadou Sakho, Scott Dann, Gary Cahill, Patrick van Aanholt, Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Ward, James McCarthy, Jeffrey Schlupp, Max Meyer, Andros Townsend and Conor Wickham have all seen their contracts expire.
Looking at that list, Palace need a couple of centre-backs, a right-back and a winger at the very least. Schlupp, Meyer and Townsend are all options on the flanks for Palace, or at least they were until June 30. So, bringing in a new option out wide is crucial and Nelson could be that man.
Palace might well be one of the three unnamed English clubs looking to sign Nelson. While Romano says Arsenal are keen to tie him to a new deal and send him on loan – he might be allowed to leave on the cheap. That is, given his contract situation. Football London claim £15million could be enough.
What have Palace fans said about Arsenal man Nelson?
So, Arsenal might be forced into selling Nelson this summer with the winger unwilling – at the moment – to pen a new deal. Remaining in London is likely to be a priority for Nelson, who came through the Arsenal academy. Palace, meanwhile, need additions all over the pitch – especially out wide.
The chance to work under Vieira and alongside the likes of Wilf Zaha and Eberi Eze will also be tempting for Nelson. Surely then, a move for Nelson to Palace makes sense? Whether Palace will be willing to splash £15million on Nelson remains to be seen, but a compromise could be met.
That is, if Palace do go in for Nelson. Many Palace fans, though, responded to Romano’s Tweet on Nelson by urging their club to consider Nelson.
