Crystal Palace fans still think Zaha is better than Arsenal's Pepe, despite Wednesday loss
Nicolas Pepe stole the show on Wednesday night as Arsenal secured a crucial three points in their fight to finish in the European places this summer – but Crystal Palace fans still think that Wilf Zaha is better than Ivory Coast teammate Pepe.
Pepe, 25, took his tally to 14 goals for the season in all competitions with a brace against Palace. His first goal came after brilliant work from Kieran Tierney and Bukayo Saka down the left, allowing Pepe to volley home from eight yards out.
Christian Benteke equalised in Roy Hodgson’s last game, but a beautiful Martin Odegaard delivery found Gabriel Martinelli to score late on – only for Pepe then to make it 3-1 with a lovely solo run and finish as he cut inside from the right flank.
In stark contract, Zaha was nowhere to be seen. Zaha has long been linked with Arsenal and even claimed on Jamie Carragher’s podcast that Arsenal signed Pepe instead of him – but it was Pepe that shone between the two players on Wednesday night.
Palace fans have reacted on Twitter to the defeat and many still believe they have the better player in Zaha despite Pepe’s brace and performance at Selhurst Park on Wednesday. It is an interesting debate, given the duo play for the same country.
Zaha is literally 10 times the player Pepe is
