Crystal Palace Under-23s defeated Wolves 2-1 in the Premier League 2 yesterday afternoon and fans were quick to react on Twitter as Christian Benteke netted for the Eagles.

His goal was added to by Scott Banks and although Taylor Perry pulled one back for the visitors, it was Palace who claimed all three points.

Benteke has played just 10 minutes in the Premier League this season and was on the bench against Fulham during the weekend win.

The 29-year-old featured 25 times last season scoring in games against Everton and Chelsea but does appear to be down the pecking order under Roy Hodgson.

His strike for the under-23 outfit will have done the ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa man the world of good – with the aim now on forcing his way back into the team.

Benteke is paid £120,000-a-week at Selhurst Park and naturally, that would make offloading him pretty tough for Palace.

With that in mind, getting him fit and firing might be the best solution for Hodgson and this performance is certainly a good start.

His goal was a beauty of a strike which left the Wolves stopper with no chance and on his day he can be a threat.

Following his goal for the development team, here is what Palace fans were saying about the striker on Twitter.
