On Saturday afternoon, Crystal Palace defeated Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Selhurst Park.
Unfortunately for the Terriers, the loss secured their relegation to the Championship with six matches still left to play.
Palace’s goalscorers were Luka Milivojevic and Patrick van Aanholt, and the club’s supporters hailed the defender on Twitter after the match.
Noting the Ducthman’s impressive attacking play, a couple of astute fans pointed out that van Aanholt has quite a knack for scoring goals that clinch the relegation of other clubs.

The full back had received criticism in past weeks for subpar defensive performances, but justified his selection against Huddersfield with a goal.
And in magnanimous fashion, van Aanholt paid a classy tribute to Huddersfield’s support on social media, clearly taking little joy in sending down the club.
The Eagles lifted themselves well above the relegation mess with the three points, but fans were still disappointed that their FA Cup run ended in disappointing fashion against Watford.

With safety all but assured, focus shifts to the midweek Premier League opener of Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium — and Palace would love to play spoiler.
