Crystal Palace fans furious that Christian Benteke will reportedly get new deal

Crystal Palace are reportedly prepared to extend the contract of Christian Benteke – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are raging at the speculation.

According to the Daily Mail, the Eagles are “close to finalising” a new contract for the 28-year-old.

It is understood that Palace have been open to letting the £120,000-a-week Belgian striker leave in recent windows, but a fresh deal will mean he can’t leave on a free transfer next summer.

The report also details that defender James Tomkins is in line for a new deal at Selhurst Park.

A selection of Palace supporters on social media are not pleased that Benteke is primed for a new deal.

Benteke is yet to get off the mark in the opening two league games and his scoring record has been a concern recently.

The tall centre-forward played just 19 times across all competitions last term and managed one goal in return.

Roy Hodgson has given him a chance at the beginning of the season to reignite his form and he needs to show serious improvement to justify a new deal.

There is a lack of goals in the final third and Palace can’t just rely on Wilfried Zaha to keep out of relegation trouble.
