Crystal Palace are interested in signing former Liverpool striker, Fabio Borini.

The Italian striker had a somewhat nightmare of a time at Anfield during a three-year spell between 2012 and 2015.

However, according to a report from the Sutton and Croydon Guardian, Palace manager Roy Hodgson is open to the idea of signing the Italian in January.

Since leaving Liverpool, Borini has enjoyed sporadic success. He enjoyed a couple of high profile moments with Sunderland, before impressing for AC Milan in a loan spell.

Indeed, that loan spell was made permanent in 2018, although since then, he has fallen down the pecking order somewhat at the San Siro.

Palace have been going along nicely in the Premier League this season. They currently sit in ninth position after 17 games. But, their lack of goals remains a problem. They have scored only 15 times, the second least, only behind bottom club, Watford.

Manager Roy Hodgson would see the signing of Borini as at least giving him another goal threat up top.

Energy and passion

Fabio Borini might not have scored the goals he might have hoped for in his career. However, he does bring an element of likeability with him.

He simply loves scoring goals. His time at Sunderland brought with it a couple of special moments, albeit those moments were mainly in vain as the club dropped out of the Premier League.

If Hodgson simply wants a player who can put the work in, then Borini could well tick all the boxes.

TBR view

The January transfer window is hard when it comes to bringing in players. Especially bringing in players of sufficient quality to make a big impact.

Fabio Borini might not have the best goalscoring record but Palace need more options and they could, in theory, do a lot worse than bring in the Italian.
