'Crucial player': PL boss hailed Arsenal star earlier this year, now he reportedly wants to sign him
Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly on Chelsea’s radar.
Arsenal have endured a difficult season that promised so much and delivered so little.
And Aubameyang, who penned a new Gunners contract last year, has struggled this term.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have enjoyed a superb season, winning the Champions League.
However, Tuchel reportedly wants to bolster his front line in wake of a difficult maiden campaign for Timo Werner.
Aubameyang was sensational under Tuchel’s tutelage at Borussia Dortmund, scoting 79 goals in 95 games.
Furthermore, the German coach remains a big fan of the Gabon international.
Talking last month, Tuchel told football.london: “Back in the days at Dortmund, it was a pure pleasure to have him in the squad.
“Auba was a fantastic striker, a fantastic finisher on the pitch.
“But more than that, he was a fantastic worker off the pitch. I think he did not miss one single training in two years.
“Yeah, it was a very reliable relationship because he delivered an unbelievable amount of goals, his speed was unique in Bundesliga and he was a crucial player.
“It was a pleasure to work with him, always a smile on his face, very, very honest guy. A bit of a crazy guy, but this is nice crazy.”
Arsenal hierarchy would have a big decision to make
Gunners fans were absolutely delighted when Aubameyang penned his new £250,000-a-week contract last year.
However, his loss of form led to some questioning whether Arsenal had another Ozil situation on their hands.
The likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Nicolas Pepe staked a claim on the left-hand side last season.
Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette has done well as the centre-forward, while Folarin Balogun could make his breakthrough next season.
Where would this leave Aubameyang?
The Arsenal hierarchy would have a big decision to make if Chelsea made a move for their star striker.
They’d probably get a decent amount for him and get him off their wage bill.
However, they’d also be strengthening a high-profile Premier League rival, and a London one at that.
