Crooks suggests Ivan Toney is ideal for Arsenal after his two goals

Garth Crooks has told BBC Sport that Ivan Toney would be the ideal replacement for Alexandre Lacazette at Arsenal at the end of the season as he named the striker in his team of the week.

It is well-documented that Arsenal are going to need at least one new striker this summer. Both Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Reports have suggested that Arsenal could yet offer Lacazette the kind of contract he is looking for. He has been outstanding for the Gunners for a number of weeks.

But it still looks likely that Mikel Arteta’s men will dip into the market. And Crooks has suggested that Toney would be the perfect target for Arsenal off the back of another two goals for the 25-year-old.

“I caused a bit of a stir on Final Score and my colleagues Dion Dublin and Jason Mohammed raised eyebrows when I suggested that Ivan Toney would make a good fit for Arsenal next season. I think they were slightly taken aback because they thought I might know something or have an inside track but my comments were purely speculative,” he told BBC Sport.

“After all Ollie Watkins, a former Brentford striker, has made the transition at Aston Villa. Toney would be an ideal replacement if Alexandre Lacazette, for example, were to leave the Gunners in the summer. Unlike Watkins when he transferred to Villa, Toney is already scoring goals in the Premier League and plenty of them.”

Toney certainly proving that he is good enough for the Premier League as Crooks suggests Arsenal make move

Toney went into mid-January having scored four times in the Premier League. And it must be noted that five of his goals have come from the penalty spot.

But he now has eight in his last six in all competitions. And he is now into double figures in the league for the Bees this term.

Arsenal know how dangerous he can be. He was outstanding on the opening day of the season against the Gunners.

He can be an absolute nightmare for defenders. Teammate Kristoffer Ajer described his ‘fantastic‘ performance against Wolves earlier this term as potentially the best display he has seen from a striker.

Brentford now look to be on course to stay in the Premier League next year. And that may not help any side looking to sign Toney. He was previously valued at £30 million.

But Arsenal certainly will be looking to make a big striker purchase this summer. And it would be a surprise if Toney was not one player who came up in conversations behind the scenes.
