Cristian Stellini has 'great news' for Tottenham fans ahead of Forest match

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini has confirmed that Richarlison is back in training and available.

The Spurs forward had been on the sidelines since October due to a calf injury he suffered in the Everton match.

There were immediate fears that Richarlison could have been forced to miss the World Cup with his injury.

Richarlison sat out the last six Tottenham matches, but returned to full training with the squad on Monday.

The 25-year-old later made the Brazil squad for the World Cup.

And on Tuesday, Stellini confirmed that Richarlison is up for selection for the EFL Cup meeting with Nottingham Forest.

However, the Spurs coach admitted Antonio Conte would have to make a decision on whether the forward will start.

“Richarlison started training with the team yesterday,” Stellini said on SPURPLAY, via the Tottenham website.

“For us, it’s great news, because we’ve missed Richarlison, like we’ve missed Kulusevski and everyone we’ve missed in this last month.

“He’s only just started to train with us, we can use him, but we have to be careful, and we work day by day to take the right decision.”

‘Antonio will take the decision tomorrow’

Asked if he was available for Forest, Cristian said: “Yes, he’s available for Forest, for sure.

“But if we have to take a risk, we don’t have to do it, so we manage players who are recovering from injury day by day, and Antonio will take the decision tomorrow for the squad.

“It’s not only Richarlison or Kulusevski, but also, we’ve played 11 matches (since 1 October) and many players maybe have a small problem or fatigue to recover, so Antonio will take the decision tomorrow.”

Great news indeed, as Tottenham have had their fair share of injury issues up front.

Richarlison’s return is timely, especially if it can help Spurs get back on track ahead of the mid-season World Cup break.
