'From the day I arrived': Cristian Romero says one Spurs player has been 'instrumental' in helping him settle

Tottenham defender, Cristian Romero, has been enjoying a fine season under Antonio Conte and has credited a number of his teammates with helping him settle.

Romero, who was signed in the summer with the intention of the deal being made an expensive permanent one, has been hugely impressive in recent weeks after recovering from injury troubles. Alongside Eric Dier and Ben Davies, Romero has forged a fine back three for Spurs.

And Romero has been speaking to The Athletic this weekend and revealed that Dier has been key for him in settling into things at the club.

“He was instrumental when I joined. We’ve always got on well on and off the field. The fact he speaks Spanish really helps with our on-pitch understanding as well. He was instrumental also in bringing me into the group,” Romero told The Athletic.

“From the day I arrived, he was really good at introducing me to everyone and making me feel at home as well so I was grateful for that. But first and foremost, what a great season he’s having — he brings a lot to the team, loads as a player.”

Dier is one of a number of players who have enjoyed a fine turnaround under Conte. If his form continues, some have called for him to be considered for England once again.

TBR’s View: Dier In The Form Of His Life Alongside Romero

Few will have seen this coming really. There was a time when Dier looked a frustrated figure at Spurs and was seen by many as a player who could leave.

However, under Conte, Dier has turned things right around. He’s playing some fine football and alongside Romero and Davies, seems to be really flourishing.

Off the pitch, too, it seems Dier is a huge help. Speaking another language is always useful and it’s proven the case here with Romero.
