‘Crikey’: Gary Lineker reacts to very bad news for Everton

everton

Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Burnley recorded a 2-1 win over Watford in the Premier League, which pushed Everton closer to the Championship.

What’s the story?

Well, the Everton supporters were presumably delighted when they saw that Watford were leading 1-0 going into the final ten minutes.

However, a goal from Jack Cork in the 83rd minute was quickly followed by a strike from Josh Brownhill in the 86th minute, to hand Burnley all three points at Vicarage Road.

Now, the Clarets sit 16th in the Premier League with 34 points to their name, leaving Everton stuck in 18th place with 29 points.

It really is starting to look ominous for the Toffees, and Lineker believes the Everton fans will be panicking.

You can see what the BBC Match of the Day host wrote on Twitter in full below.

Too right. There will surely be plenty of brown pants on Merseyside tonight, especially if Leeds somehow find a way to get something against Manchester City.

If the Toffees fail to get a result against Chelsea at Goodison Park tomorrow, then the atmosphere at Finch Farm will be like that of a funeral during training next week.

Everton need to do something special

In our view, the odds are stacked against Everton in the fight for survival.

Frank Lampard still needs to face Chelsea, Leicester, Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Brentford, with none of those fixtures coming across as simple at first glance.

The only one that seems winnable is the trip to Watford on May 11th, and even that will be tough against a stubborn side led by the defensive Roy Hodgson.

Of course, you won’t want to hear this, but we have to be realistic.

Burnley have found a way to miraculously conjure up a string of wins, and now, it’s time for Everton and Lampard to follow suit.
