Craig Moore delivers verdict on whether Rangers can win the title this season

Glasgow Rangers legend Craig Moore has given his verdict on whether Steven Gerrard’s charges can bring the Premiership title back to Ibrox this season.

The Gers have been back in the top flight since 2016 and have been progressing with each passing year, though they’re yet to take the title back from their main rivals.

This season, however, Rangers have staked an early claim for the title, sitting nine points clear at the top of the table, though their rivals have two games in hand.

In addition, the Light Blues made light work of Neil Lennon’s side last month, running out 2-0 winners on their own patch.

With Rangers having bolstered their ranks significantly in the summer and playing great football, Moore is confident his former side can do it this year.

“15 clean sheets in 18 games tells a story,” he told Optus Sport.

“They are playing with confidence, and I believe they can win the title this season due to the squad depth that was not previously there. They are not so reliant on Alfredo Morelos either.”

However, Moore is eager to stress caution, adding: “At this moment, they have not won anything.  The real test comes at the start of the new year.

“The winter shutdown has really hurt them the last two seasons, so staying humble and making sure the squad keeps the competition within the group will be the key to success.”

Rangers have hit the ground running this season, showcasing superb football and getting the job done – not only are they flying in the Premiership but the Europa League too.

As Moore says, however, the return to action after the winter break is key.

This is where the Gers have previously fallen apart following a good first half of the campaign, so it’s crucial for Gerrard to manage his side so as to not make the same mistakes again.
