Craig Gordon has told the Scottish Sun that Celtic have made an offer to extend the veteran goalkeeper’s six-year stay on Parkhead – but has stated that the Scottish champions must improve their bid, if they want to keep him.
Gordon, 37, is out of contract this summer – six years after joining Celtic in the summer of 2014. Since moving to Parkhead, he has won 13 trophies with the club, clocking up 242 appearances in all competitions.
However, Gordon has warmed the bench under Neil Lennon this season, with Fraser Forster drafted in on loan from Southampton. Ex-Scotland international has managed just six appearances throughout the entire 2019-20 campaign.
His contract expired on May 31 and Celtic have made an offer to keep Gordon, but the veteran stopper has stated that Lennon’s side must increase that offer if they want him to stay. Gordon also spoke of interest from other sides, and a St. Mirren bid.

“With Celtic, the ball is in their court. They’ve made an offer but they know they’ll need to come back with something better. My contract has lapsed and I’m free to talk to anybody. That’s what I intend to do over the next few weeks,” Gordon said.
TBR’s view – Celtic need to get rid of Gordon
Certainly, the veteran is one of the club’s highest earners. Simply put, to be on one of the biggest contracts at the club, you need to be playing week in, week out. Six appearances last season was not enough.
Yes, Gordon could be more involved next season if Celtic fail to sign Forster for a third time – or any other goalkeeper for that matter. However, a number of mistakes have creeped into his game, and he should be allowed to go.
Keep him on a much-reduced contract, or wave goodbye – should be Celtic’s strategy.
