Cowley: Arsenal have recall clause in Azeez contract

Arsenal youngster Miguel Azeez has a recall clause in his loan deal with Portsmouth.

Speaking to the media (as per Hampshire Live), Pompey manager Danny Cowley confirmed the news about the 18-year-old.

Azeez joined the south coast outfit on a season-long loan deal towards the end of the summer window.

The League One outfit have suffered in the past as a result of having a player recalled by their parent club.

During the 2018/2019 season, Portsmouth were top of the table and headed towards promotion. However, Millwall’s Ben Thompson was recalled by the Lions and Pompey’s season fell apart.

What-If EVERY Premier League Team Was A Country

However, speaking about a potential repeat scenario, Cowley has claimed he’s not worried about it occurring.

Instead, the 42-year-old has said it’s his job to find replacements should anyone of the five loanees get recalled.

When talking about the clause, Cowley told Hampshire Live: “

Azeez recall clause shows faith from Arsenal

As we have know for the last two years, youth has been the way forward from the north Londoners.

Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have arguably shone the brightest of anyone in the club.

But, the trio have either played in attack or defence, where they have less responsibilities.

However, the recall clause for Azeez shows an incredible amount of faith from Arsenal.

It shows that should Mikel Arteta be hit with a crisis in the centre of midfield, he’s willing to recall the ace and trust him.

Whilst Azeez has not had a lot of games in midfield, he has given fans a glimpse of his quality. He featured throughout this summer’s pre-season calendar and struck a beauty against Watford in a 4-1 win.

And with Arsenal looking likely to lose Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny to AFCON, the starlet may well be recalled.
