Coutinho struggles should have Eriksen mindful over Real Madrid switch

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen still hasn’t signed a new deal with the club.

The Danish playmaker will be out of contract in the summer of 2020, and fears are growing that he could be set to follow in the footsteps of former Spurs players Luka Modric and Gareth Bale.

The duo joined Real Madrid, and reports have been plentiful about Eriksen taking the same career path.

Supposedly the former Ajax star is keen to experience a new footballing culture.

That said, The Express recently claimed that Real have actually pulled out of the race, with Manchester United and Chelsea now eyeing the 26-year-old.

It’s hard to understand why that would be the case though, with Eriksen one of Europe’s most talented playmakers and his contract situation.

There’s every chance Madrid will test the waters this summer if a deal still hasn’t been signed.

Eriksen should be wary of Coutinho struggles

Eriksen may indeed have his heart set on the Bernabeu, but he should definitely think about whether it would be the right move.

This time last year, Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona from Liverpool.

Things haven’t quite gone to plan so far for the Brazilian, who has struggled to make a smooth transition in his first year.

Coutinho has been in poor form this term and hasn’t adapted in the way many just assumed he would being a technician.

Ernesto Valverde was visibly frustrated with him during the recently victory over Girona, and there have even been reports linking the player with a move away from the Nou Camp already.

Eriksen has often been compared to Coutinho, so perhaps there’s a chance something similar could happen if he moved to Barca’s bitter rivals.
