Coutinho reacts on Instagram as Gabriel Jesus' World Cup ends in injury

Philippe Coutinho and Douglas Luiz have lauded Gabriel Jesus on Instagram after it was announced that the Arsenal striker will miss the rest of the World Cup due to injury.

Jesus made his first start of the tournament on Friday as the Gunners star led the line against Cameroon. Unfortunately, it proved to be a disappointing occasion for Selecao, as they suffered a 1-0 loss.

Of course, Brazil were already through. But they have suffered a double blow since that game. As reported by BBC Sport, both Jesus and Alex Telles will play no further part in Qatar after sustaining injuries to their right knee.

It is a real setback for Jesus, but his absence will be felt by Tite’s men, and potentially by Arsenal too.

Brazil had already been without Neymar for two games. Meanwhile, there is absolutely no question that Jesus has been an unbelievable signing for the Gunners.

It is now a nervous wait for Arsenal to find out just how long the 25-year-old will be sidelined for.

Jesus has now taken to Instagram to comment on the news and thank everyone for their messages of support. And amongst those to reply were Coutinho and Luiz.

The Aston Villa pair backed their countryman to come back stronger, while there were also messages of support from Vinicius Jr and Oleksandr Zinchenko amongst others…

The one upside for Arsenal is that the January transfer window lies just around the corner. So if Jesus’ injury is at all serious, they will have an opportunity to strengthen the squad.

Of course, the challenge will be finding someone capable of filling his void. Eddie Nketiah has done well this season. But he appears to be a clear understudy.

If Jesus is going to be out for a substantial period, Arsenal surely need to pull something special out of the bag.
