'Couldn’t get the ball off him': Sepp van den Berg hails player who left Liverpool last year
Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg has waxed lyrical about Adam Lallana, saying “you couldn’t get the ball off” the Anfield cult hero.
Lallana joined Liverpool in 2014 on Brendan Rodgers’ watch and went on to make 178 competitive appearances for the Reds.
The 33-year-old became a fan favourite at Liverpool thanks to his creative skills, amazing dribbling ability and hard-working attitude.
Lallana was initially a key player in Jurgen Klopp’s system, but sadly injury hampered his progress, and his last season saw him make just three Premier League starts.
The former Southampton captain left Liverpool last summer upon the expiry of his contract, joining Brighton on a three-year deal.
Despite having left Anfield, academy ace Van den Berg remains wowed by how good he was in training and on the pitch.
Speaking about his experiences in first-team training, the 19-year-old told the Liverpool Echo: “When I came, even when I think about it now, it’s incredible,
“When you’re training 11 v 11, all of a sudden you go from Holland to having the best attacking front players in the world against you in training.
“It was a big step for me. It was really good to experience that. For any young player to be able to be on the same pitch as players like that is really good for your development.
“I really liked it and can’t wait to play against them again in training.
“They (Salah, Firmino and Mane) are the obvious names. Lallana was unbelievable when he was still at Liverpool. You couldn’t get the ball off him.
“Even Divock Origi. He’s so quick, it’s unbelievable.”
Lallana was a great player for Liverpool, and it’s a shame how injuries sidelined him and he ended up becoming surplus to Klopp’s requirements.
However, he remains appreciated by the Reds fanbase – the club wished him a happy birthday on Monday and it’s great to see how many fans sung the midfield maestro’s praises.
