Manchester City will reportedly put their faith in Benjamin Mendy for the 2019/2020 season, and not sign new left-back this summer.
The French full-back cost the Premier League champions a whopping £52 million in the summer of 2017 (BBC Sport), but the happy-go-lucky defender has struggled to repay that fee having suffering two bad knee injuries.
He is back fit again now, and Sky Sports have reported that the club will back the Premier League and World Cup-winner to come good next term.

There had been some speculation that Pep Guardiola might want to get rid of him after reports the player is not professional enough.
But it would appear that the Spaniard is ready to stand by Mendy – which could potentially open the door for Wolves to revisit a former Etihad transfer target.
TBR’s view
Last summer the Black Country club almost signed versatile Ukraine international Oleksandr Zinchenko, only for the player to reject a £16 million transfer to Molineux (The Mirror).
The player ultimately decided he wanted to fight for his place, and to his credit he has played a lot of games this term thanks to Mendy’s injury problems.

City opting to back Mendy might frustrate Zinchenko, as there will surely be pressure to play the former Monaco man from the start of next season.
There might, therefore, be a renewed opportunity for Wolves to snap up the technically solid Zinchenko, who could be a really shrewd signing for the club given his ability to play in various different positions.
