It is being reported in the press this morning that West Ham could be set to make a move for England’s star goalkeeper Joe Hart, in a move that would see Adrian leave London Stadium.
According to The Sun, West Ham are prepared to let their Spanish goalkeeper move on after his contract expires in six months, with Joe Hart already being lined up as a replacement.
“Adrian can leave if the right offer comes in for him. A new top line keeper is very much on the agenda. His contract is due to expire in six months and we will not stand in his way if someone was to make a move, but we are looking at options to replace him.” – Source close to London Stadium
These ‘options’ that the above source speaks about could well centre around Hart, who could be the subject of a £15 million offer from a Hammers side that have been scouting the City man since his summer axe.
What would Hart bring to West Ham?
Joe Hart is not exactly short on both international and Premier League experience, and he would be an asset to any Premier League side.
With 119 clean sheets to his name in England’s top division, making him the 11th best goalkeeper to ever grace the Premier League, Hart is an exceptionally talented individual.
For the majority of his career he has been brilliantly consistent, and despite a few individual mistakes creeping into his game during his last 18 months with Manchester City he showed in the World Cup Qualifier stalemate with Slovenia that he still has it in him to produce spectacular match-saving performances.
The England goalkeeper is also a leader from the back, demanding discipline from the defence in front of him and able to communicate excellently to avoid misunderstandings at the back.
Is a move to London likely?
Despite performing well in Italy for Torino, leading the side to 8th in the table ahead of Fiorentina and just behind Italian giants Inter Milan, the best move for Hart’s career would undoubtedly be to return to England.
With Ben Foster performing out of his skin this season for West Brom and Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster proving to be as solid as ever, Hart’s spot as number one for England might not be as nailed on as it once was – and that’s why he should move back to the Premier League.
It has also been said that Manchester City wouldn’t raise the asking price for Hart despite that fact that West Ham are Premier League rivals, as the club don’t see the Hammers as a threat to their title ambitions for 2017/18.
With Slaven Bilic openly willing to listen to offers for Adrian over the upcoming months, it certainly seems that there will be a goalkeeper on the way out of London Stadium; it’s up to Joe Hart to decide if he wants to be the man coming into London Stadium before the start of next season.
Verdict
7/10 – It’s fully expected that Hart is set to leave the Etihad on a permanent deal after his loan at Torino comes to an end, and West Ham will almost certainly be in the mix for the England ‘keeper, especially if Adrian does leave. A return to the Premier League would do Hart’s career and England prospects no harm whatsoever, and would make Gareth Southgate sit up and take note for sure.
