Could Unai Emery’s respect for Marcelo Bielsa give Leeds United edge in Eddie Nketiah chase?

Leeds United have reportedly identified Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah as a potential replacement for Kemar Roofe.

Roofe left Leeds for Anderlecht yesterday in a deal reported to be worth £7 million by The Sun.

Nketiah, who is also wanted by Bristol City and Fortuna Dusseldorf, has had an excellent pre-season. As reported by the BBC, Leeds director of football Victor Orta is pushing hard for a deal.

The hope is his previous relationship with Arsenal boss Unai Emery and the promise of regular football could see Leeds win the race for the 20-year-old’s signature.

But once again, another ace Leeds United have up their sleeve might very well be Marcelo Bielsa.

When asked about the ‘Spygate’ controversy last season Emery, as reported by Goal, the Arsenal boss heaped praise on the Argentine.

“I know he is obsessed but also very professional towards his work.

“I respect him immensely because he is (one of) the best coaches in the world. He has always worked like that in his career.”

Earlier this week, as reported by The Sun, it was suggested that Emery may not want to let Nketiah leave the club this summer.

After an impressive pre-season and with striking options limited, Arsenal have reportedly considered keeping Nketiah for the upcoming season.

However, with the chance to work under Bielsa and play regularly at Elland Road, Leeds United might just convince the Gunners boss otherwise.
