Could Tottenham Hotspur be stung by and old friend in bid to keep Eriksen?

As reported by The Independent, Real Madrid have ‘made contact’ over Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen.

The Danish playmaker has been in the news heavily in recent weeks for his stalling over signing a new contract with the north Londoners.

Eriksen is understood to be currently earning £75,000-a-week, and is out of contract in the summer of 2020.

Spurs are reported to be happy to offer him £200,000-£250,000-a-week, but wages are not the stumbling block.

Apparently Eriksen is intrigued about experiencing a new football culture, and harbours ambitions about playing for one Spain’s top two teams.

Madrid have hopes of sealing a £100 million move for Eriksen and interestingly, that move could come to fruition thanks to an old Tottenham face.

Modric to sting Spurs again?

A potential deal for Eriksen could hinge on what happens with Luka Modric.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Internazionale are still keen on signing the Croatian, who recently ended the Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo dominance of the Ballon d’Or.

Modric is out of contract in 2020 like Eriksen, and Inter feel as though they can sign him as he too may not sign a new deal.

If Modric, who played for Tottenham for four seasons, does jump ship soon, then it could see Real Madrid intensify their pursuit of Eriksen.

It would certainly be ironic if Modric became the catalyst for Madrid’s possible signing of Eriksen.
