Virgil Van Dijk
The 25-year-old Dutchman has been in the Premier League for just one season after moving to Southampton from Scottish champions Celtic, but has already made an impact on the South coast.
He already has three goals for Southampton, making him an attacking threat from set pieces, and more importantly he is a very competent centre-back who can live with attackers, mark his man, and tackle with suitable aggression when acquired. Of course, at just 25 years of age, he still has years to improve.
New Everton manager Ronald Koeman knows Van Dijk well as he played under him last season at St Mary’s, and this connection could make a potential transfer all the more likely.
However, the fact Southampton have secured Europa League football may be a potential stumbling block, but with a new era at Everton ahead and Van Dijk formerly playing in the Champions League with Celtic, it remains to be seen if Europa League football would be enough to convince him to stay at Southampton.
So, those are three potential replacements for John Stones at Everton. Do you think Everton should let Stones leave? Would he be a good signing for Manchester City? Which other players could replace him at Everton? Let us know in the comments below.
