It is hard to justify why Gimenez would move from Atlético to Chelsea at this moment in time, really. Potential European Champion to a team that can’t even finish in the Europa League places? Hardly a move that jumps out as one that would benefit your career in the immediate future.

If Chelsea could lure Gimenez away, it would surely be one of their greatest ever signings. Gimenez and Zouma could build a defensive partnership that would last at least a decade. It’s a big ask, but it would be a real statement of their ambition if Chelsea could snatch such a prospect from Atléti.

The Uruguayan’s limitations on the ball may put off some clubs, but Conte is unlikely to be too concerned about that.
