John Stones
In the summer of 2015, then Chelsea manager Mourinho was understood to have made a £38 million bid for Everton defender John Stones, making him a known admirer of the youngster. Based on Stones’ performances in the heart of Everton’s defence this season, that figure is almost laughably high.
However, Stones is of course a young talent and with United having to deploy midfielder Daley Blind at centre-half all season long, the Red Devils will certainly be searching for a new defender now that the 2015/16 campaign is done and dusted.
The 21-year-old’s current club; Everton, have had a season to forget, and with no European football to offer next season, that could well help Mourinho to persuade the Englishman to join him at Old Trafford.
United defender Chris Smalling will be playing with Stones at the Euros in France this summer, and the former non-league performer could well have a part to play in convincing Stones to pair up with him under Mourinho.
