It has been quite a week at Manchester United having had a ‘bomb-threat’ at Old Trafford, won the FA Cup and finally, dismissed the manager who brought them said domestic trophy, Louis Van Gaal. Lifting the cup after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 at Wembley on Saturday wasn’t enough to save the Dutchman’s job.
A string of inconsistent performances and a ‘boring’ or slow style of football have caused fans and the board to grow
restless and now a new era starts on the red side of Manchester.
José Mourinho is a born winner having won silverware at Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, whilst he is still only 53-years-old.
The Portuguese manager; who was sacked by Chelsea in December 2015, is sure to be backed by the board at United with a huge transfer kitty. The demand for silverware at Manchester United paired with money being no object means that Mourinho is sure to bring in some star players.
They Must Be Realistic
Manchester United will be playing in the Europa League next season, which is still a great competition to be involved in if you can get far, or even win it.
Nonetheless, it is unrealistic to think that Mourinho can sign world-class players from big clubs because although United are undoubtedly one of the biggest around, Champions League football is the most important thing for a player.
A worry for the Old Trafford faithful will be Mourinho’s history of rejecting youth. Marcus Rashford has been a revelation and Jesse Lingard won them the FA Cup, while Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have both produced a number of impressive performances this season.
Mourinho will be expected to spend substantial money on a new defender, a ball-winning midfielder and a goal-scorer this summer in order to ensure that United are back challenging for the title next season.
Here, we look at three realistic signings Mourinho could make to enhance his squad. Leave your thoughts on the potential moves in the comments section below, and who do you think that he should aim for instead?
