Idrissa Gueye: The energetic midfielder was signed last summer having forged a reputation in Ligue 1 with Lille as an all action midfielder. Brought in to replace the outgoing Delph, Idrissa Gueye struggled initially. However, since then Gueye has gone from strength to strength, looking like one of the very few Villa players with fight left in him. Not only does he average over 4 tackles and interceptions a game, he manages to maintain a high pass completion stat of 85% too. To manage these statistics for a team who have been atrocious at times this season, shows that Gueye belongs in the top flight.

Idrissa Gueye would be a valuable addition to any mid table Premier League team. Although at this moment he would only manage to be a squad player in teams higher up the division, if Gueye continues to perform and develop the way he has done over the course of this season, playing for a team with European ambitions wouldn’t be too far off. Gueye would provide the perfect foil for the array of more attack minded central midfielders in teams across the Premier League. As previously mentioned his ability to recycle possession is a skill valued so highly these days, making him an attractive signing for many Premier League managers.

As there seems to be a decline in the number of naturally defensive minded midfielders in recent years, Gueye could end up proving a smart buy, providing other big clubs such as Marseille do not beat them to securing his signature.
