Could these reported Liverpool targets be the breakout stars at Euro 2016?

International tournaments are the perfect vehicle for young players to perform and announce themselves on the world stage. In 2014, James Rodriguez was the poster boy of the World Cup as he starred in a really good Colombia side, which led to a move to Real Madrid. This summer, there will be a number of players that enhance their reputations significantly, and I’ll talk about three players I think will be in that group in this article.

The German has emerged as a key part of the national side in the aftermath of their successful World Cup campaign. A number of important players from that tournament have either retired or lost their place, and Hector is one of the next generation coming through in the Bundesliga. The left back has quickly accumulated 12 caps, scoring once in the process. He is a modern full back in that he likes to get forward, with both his dribbling and crossing being impressive attributes. However, he reads the game very well, which prevents him from being caught at the back too often. The defender is also excellent in the air, and wins 2.6 aerial duels per match.

He has been linked heavily with Liverpool, according to the Mirror Sport, as Jurgen Klopp will look to the Bundesliga often when looking for new players. Hector would benefit greatly from being coached by his compatriot, while he would also offer an upgrade on Alberto Moreno. He is also versatile, in that he can play a number of positions including midfield. This summer should see him start for Germany, and if he takes his club form into the tournament, he will emerge as one of the best left backs in the world. As a result, I expect interest to increase, which is why doing a deal before the tournament may be imperative for Liverpool and Klopp.
