Nigel Pearson

Nigel Pearson is a man with links to Newcastle and the north-east in general. A Middlesbrough stalwart in his playing days, Pearson took temporary charge of Newcastle on a couple of occasions in the 07/08 campaign after the quick-fire departures of first Glenn Roeder and then Sam Allardyce. There have been recent links with the vacant Derby job but is currently still available after being sacked last June by Leicester City.

After guiding The Foxes to Premier League safety in remarkable fashion, his departure was linked to his son James’ role in a racist sex tape made by three Leicester City reserve players in Thailand. He was then replaced by Claudio Ranieri and we all know what has happened since, but the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy were signed by Pearson and many credit Leicester’s success over the past 12 months in part to his methods. Other controversial incidents have never been too far away, but Pearson could still provide stability to Newcastle that other managers cannot.
