Jose Mourinho’s tenure at Tottenham Hotspur may only be three games old, but it already appears that one player may be about to thrive more than any other member of the Spurs squad while working under the Special One.
Dele Alli has scored three goals and contributed an assist across those three games. And it must not be forgotten that he also produced a moment of outrageous quality in the build-up to one Tottenham goal in their win over West Ham.
It looks as though the 23-year-old is ready to take his game to another level. It is a level that, in all honesty, looked as though it may be beyond him over the last year or so. However, it is a level that he did look destined to hit during the majority of his first three years with Tottenham.
During those initial years at Spurs, the deal to sign Alli looked like a masterstroke. And perhaps, recent rumours hint that Tottenham may be looking to replicate that move with a current transfer target.
Could Spurs replicate Alli move?
The Daily Mail suggested last month that Tottenham are one of the teams interested in Ricky-Jade Jones. It had been reported that Spurs had had a £2 million approach for the 17-year-old rejected.
Jones has not gained the kind of experience that Alli had before his move. But it is telling that the Mail reports that Liverpool, Arsenal and both Manchester clubs are also amongst his admirers.
Should he get his next move right, it appears that Jones could be destined for a fantastic career at the highest level.
It could be a gamble for Spurs, especially with Posh already rejecting £2 million. But it a risk that really could prove to be inspired.
After all, Tottenham signing one of the most exciting young players in League One has worked quite well previously.
