Could Rangers replicate Aribo move with Matthew Sorinola?

Rangers are one of several clubs monitoring Matthew Sorinola, with TEAMtalk reporting this week that the Gers target is set to be on the move this summer.

Sorinola has enjoyed an impressive year playing under former Rangers loanee Russell Martin. And his form is attracting attention from all over Europe.

TEAMtalk reported that his contract expires this summer and the wing-back is planning to leave England.

Admittedly, Rangers may not be in pole position. The report noted that his priority is moving somewhere where he is going to play. And given the Gers’ depth out wide, it may not be easy for Steven Gerrard to argue that he should head to Ibrox.

But if they can convince the 20-year-old to move, perhaps Rangers can hold out hope that they may be about to replicate their 2019 transfer masterstroke involving Joe Aribo.

On that occasion, Rangers managed to lure Aribo to Ibrox off the back of an outstanding campaign in League One with his contract coming towards its conclusion.

He has since proved to be an inspired signing. The 24-year-old has been a real standout performer in what has been an amazing season for the Gers.

Like Aribo, Sorinola’s contract is running down. And he has just completed a brilliant year in England’s third tier.

Perhaps he could soon follow further in his footsteps and prove to be another fantastic signing for Rangers during Gerrard’s tenure.
