Could Rangers receive transfer boost with reportedly Liverpool in 'advanced talks'?

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a move to sign AFC Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser ahead of the January transfer windowas the player enters the final months of his Cherries contract – but it could provide Rangers with a boost?

TalkSPORT have claimed that 25-year-old Fraser could be set to sign for Liverpool in the January transfer window, with Bournemouth perhaps willing to offload the Scotland international to bring in some cash for his services.

Fraser looks unlikely to sign a new deal and that means January presents itself as the last chance to claw in some funds for his services. Liverpool are seemingly willing to do just that, with the report claiming he will cost at most £15million.

Liverpool already have plenty of options out wide. Providing cover for Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are  Xherdan Shaqiri, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi. Bringing Fraser to Anfield would add another name to that long list.

So for a club to keep the likes of Sheyi Ojo beyond his loan at Rangers seems unlikely, despite impressing in glimpses with Steven Gerrard’s side. The 22-year-old has scored five goals and laid on five more assists for the Scottish giants.

Only on a season-long loan, the England youth international has lost his place in the starting eleven following the return of Ryan Kent to the side from a hamstring injury. But Ojo is still very much involved.

In the summer of 2018, Ojo signed a five-year Liverpool contract to keep him at Jurgen Klopp’s side until the summer of 2018. But the signing of Fraser is only going to push Ojo further down the pecking order – and perhaps closer to the exit door.

If Rangers are interested in signing Ojo on a permanent basis, then, surely they will have a much better chance of doing so if Liverpool sign Fraser – given the capture of the Scottish speed machine will make Ojo more surplus to requirements than he already is.
