Could potential Patrick Bamford absence actually bring the best out of Leeds United star?

According to numerous reports, including from The Telegraph, Patrick Bamford’s involvement in Leeds United’s next two games appears to be in doubt. The report suggests the FA is investigating him for successfully deceiving an official in the Aston Villa clash at the weekend. The striker appeared to feign injury after an altercation with Anwar El Ghazi, eventually leading to the Aston Villa man’s dismissal.

But whilst Bamford’s absence would be a loss, could it actually bring the best out of another Leeds player?

Kemar Roofe looked like being the man to fire Leeds to promotion this season. The forward scored 13 goals in 18 games for Leeds before the turn of the year. He was in fine form and looking like the man to score the goals Leeds needed with new signing Bamford out with a knee injury.

However, he has struggled in the second half of the season, scoring just once in 2019. He has had his own injury trouble of course but has also been asked to share duties with Bamford for the first time this season.

Roofe, it seems, prefers to be the focal point and certainly thrives under those circumstances. Without Bamford’s presence, the 26-year-old might rediscover some of his own best form.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report he should return from a hip issue for the clash with Ipswich Town this weekend. If Bamford does get punished for his Villa actions, it might just be to the benefit of Leeds’ out-of-sorts top-scorer.
