It is only April, but another season is effectively over for the Aston Villa faithful. The wheels have well and truly come off their season and they now have to look towards next season and finding a way out of the quagmire that is the Championship.
Many thought Remi Garde on paper was a good choice, but his lack of management in England shone through and he was quite possibly the right man at the wrong time. Garde came to England with a reputation of looking to build, whereas in truth Villa needed a man who could operate in the short term and get the club moving in the right direction. T
he manager is not the only problem, Aston Villa have issues at every level above as well. The recruitment policy is an exercise that has not really worked since the days of Paul Lambert and more importantly they have an owner in Randy Lerner who just does not seem interested and would sell the club tomorrow if he had a buyer- not the kind of atmosphere you need at a club that already has problems on the pitch.
Eric Black will see out Aston Villa’s remaining games and took charge last month when Remi Garde left the club by “mutual consent”, but who should the Villa look to appoint in the Summer?
