Could Odsonne Edouard hand Rangers January transfer boost?

With the January transfer window looming, Rangers and Celtic fans will not be surprised to see the reports starting up suggesting that Premier League clubs are looking at some of their best players.

The Scottish Sun suggested in October that Gers striker Alfredo Morelos is being eyed by Crystal Palace. The Colombian has been outstanding, scoring 22 goals in 26 games in all competitions.

Losing Morelos would be a major blow for Steven Gerrard’s side, particularly if he left during the January transfer window.

So perhaps a more recent report could hint that Rangers may be about to receive a small boost from an unlikely source ahead of the winter window opening.

The Sun reported at the weekend that Palace also want Odsonne Edouard and are preparing a £20 million bid.

One key difference?

The difference between the two reports however – and perhaps, the reason that Rangers can be a little more optimistic than their Scottish Premiership title rivals – is that The Sun has suggested that Edouard is the player at the very top of Palace’s striker wishlist.

Of course, Hoops fans will insist that £20 million is not going to be anywhere near enough to sign Edouard. But the report did note that Palace have £50 million to spend after selling Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer.

And obviously, the situation could change if Palace have no luck with signing Edouard. That may leave Roy Hodgson’s side all the more determined to get Morelos instead.

But the Eagles reportedly making Edouard their number one target may have two major benefits for the Gers if a move takes place.

A move would see a title rival lose one of their best players. And it may also take one of Morelos’s admirers out of the running for his signature.
