Newcastle United are reportedly interested in a move for striker Mattia Destro from Italian club Bologna.
According to CalcioMercato, the Magpies and Sampdoria are both keen on the 27-year-old that has struggled for minutes in Serie A so far this season.
Destro is going through a rough patch so far this campaign, but he is a centre-forward with a proven track record and could be a real success at St James’ Park if given the shot.
The Italian attacker previously netted 29 times in 68 games for Roma and has earned eight senior international caps for his nation.
Rafael Benitez’s side need some extra attacking ammunition to help them stay clear of relegation trouble in the Premier League and Destro could provide a good option for them.
Destro is a mobile player that could give Newcastle a new edge in attack and there could even be the potential to form a new-look partnership.
Newcastle loanee Salomon Rondon is still waiting to hit his best form this season due to injury problems, but is back now and is a powerhouse that works well with a striker alongside him.
Destro could provide the pace and movement off of Rondon to make a great forward combination and the North East club have had some great duos over the years.
