Could Manchester United’s striking starlet Marcus Rashford be set for a Sevilla loan?

The Sun have reported that Manchester United and England starlet Marcus Rashford is a surprise target for La Liga high-flyers Sevilla.

Monchi, who is the director of football at the Spanish giants, has been tracking the 19-year-old since he burst onto the scene at Old Trafford last season and is considering making a move for the forward. Rashford has found playing opportunities limited this term following the high profile arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan during the summer and Sevilla are hopeful that they can tempt the youngster away.

However, a permanent deal is an improbability due to Jose Mourinho holding his starlet in high regard, although a loan move could suit all parties.

What would he bring?

Pace, energy and goals.

Since making his Manchester United debut at the start of 2016 Rashford has become one of the most high rated young talents in European football. He has already plundered 14 goals in just under twelve months at Old Trafford and his pace, energy and direct style of play has proven difficult for opponents to combat. The attacker, who is often deployed as an outside forward but can perform in a central role, is certainly not a finished product, but he undoubtedly has an abundance of potential.

Is a move likely?

Manchester United will not consider any offers for a permanent deal and the youngster is highly rated throughout the hierarchy at Old Trafford. However, Rashford has found game time difficult to come by so far this campaign and is competing with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jessie Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial for a spot in the starting eleven. The 19-year-old has no intentions of moving away from his boy-hood club but could be tempted by a short-term loan move that would provide him with some much needed time on the pitch.

Sevilla have followed Rashford’s progress since the start of last year and believe that his pace and direct style could cause havoc in the relatively slow-tempo fixtures in La Liga. It is unclear whether the youngster would consider a move abroad at this time which could put West Ham United in pole position for any potential loan deal. The Hammers are looking to boost their forward line before the end of the January transfer window and are under increasing pressure to secure new recruits after Simone Zaza recently agreed a move to Valencia following a dismal time in London. Slaven Bilic made enquiries about taking Rashford on loan in the summer and would be first in line should he be made available.

Verdict

Manchester United will certainly not sanction any permanent deal for their highly-rated starlet during the January transfer window. However, a potential loan move would provide Rashford with some much needed game time, although it is unclear whether the striker has any intention of moving away from Old Trafford. A deal with Sevilla seems unlikely, but a short-term loan to another Premier League club could still be a possibility.

Verdict: 3/10 (Possible, but unlikely)
