Could Manchester United make a move for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez?

Manchester United could make a move for one of the players of the summer as Goal claim that the Red Devils are interested in Spain under 21 star Saul Niguez.

The Atlético Madrid midfielder scored a remarkable hat-trick for his country against Italy in the semi-final of the European Under 21 Championships after a fine season at club level. One of the players of the tournament to date, his eye catching form has put his name in the shop window.

What would he bring to Old Trafford?

A real all-rounder, the versatile 22-year-old could add cover in a number of positions. Capable of playing anywhere through the middle from holding midfield to just behind the striker, he can also play wide and has even played at full-back at times in the past season.

Good at breaking up play and reading the game, Saul is equally as adept on the ball and has remarkable vision which helps to create opportunities out of nothing for the forwards playing in front of him.

With plenty of time left ahead of him, the Atletico midfielder will only continue to improve and will be looking to cut out some of the sloppy errors that make rare appearances in his game.

Is a move likely?

You wouldn’t think so given that the Spaniard is happy at Atletico Madrid, who are moving into a new stadium next season and seem likely to hold on to their top talent in the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Diego Simeone. However, he has left the door open to interest as Goal quote him as telling reporters:

“I am happy at Atletico and I feel valued but everyone would like to earn a bit more money to be able to help out the family. I’m fine at Atletico. I don’t want to leave.”

It may be a tough task to persuade him, but if any club has the finances to do so then it could be Manchester United.
