Leeds United are reportedly battling promotion rivals Brentford in the race to sign Liverpool teenager Yasser Larouci this summer with the Reds keen to let him go – but could Jurgen Klopp’s side use Larouci’s exit to their advantage?
Larouci, 19, made his debut for Liverpool this season at senior level but having entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield – the France youth international will be allowed to leave Anfield.
Goal have claimed that Leeds and Brentford are looking to take advantage after Liverpool held talks with the player and came to the decision that he should be sold. But Liverpool should use Larouci as a makeweight.
Only in April, Bleacher Report suggested that Liverpool could go after Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer. The 24-year-old has played a crucial part in the Whites’ campaign, who are just a point away from promotion.
Already, Phillips is being linked with an England call-up – even before Leeds have been promoted. Now with 181 appearances under his belt for his boyhood club, Phillips has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Leeds.
If Liverpool remain interested in luring Phillips to Anfield, then surely they have the perfect makeweight in a player-plus-cash deal. With Leeds in talks for Larouci, Liverpool could surely engineer a deal involving both players.
With Phillips rated in the region of £30million or even more, including Larouci and plenty of cash could tempt Leeds to sanction his exit. Promotion for Leeds, though, is likely to tempt Phillips to remain at Elland Road.
